We understand that financial difficulties can be challenging, and our aim is to assist you in finding sustainable solutions to improve your financial circumstances. Teign Housing has an up-to-date list of organisations you can approach for support to improve your circumstances.

Check your benefit entitlement
One of the quickest and easiest ways to maximise your income is to ensure you receive all the financial support you are entitled to.
The Entitledto website has a benefits calculator that is free to use.
Citizens Advice can also support you with this. You can contact them on their Adviceline on 0800 144 8848, 9am – 5pm Monday–Friday. On the Citizens Advice website are other contact methods and a search facility to help you find your nearest Citizens Advice.
Create a budget plan
A budget plan helps you understand your financial circumstances better; helping to balance how much you earn vs how much you spend. StepChange has a free guide to budgeting on their website.
See if you are eligible for any Grant Funding
You may be eligible for grants, depending on your personal circumstances. These organisations can help you search for grants visit the Turn2Us website and the Lightning Reach website.
Can you save money on your bills?
Teign Housing has partnered with Pocket Power which saves people money on their household bills and connects them to financial support they never knew existed. Please contact the Customer First Team on 01626 322722 (option 2) or speak with your Housing Officer to book a telephone appointment at a time that’s convenient for you.
Can you improve the energy efficiency of your home?
Exeter Community Energy’s Healthy Homes for Wellbeing scheme provides free energy and money-saving advice for people living in Exeter, Mid Devon, East Devon, Teignbridge and Torbay. Their Home Energy Advisers will provide practical energy advice and support with the aim of helping as many residents save money and stay warm in their homes and can help with:
- tariff checks and supplier switching
- applying for the Warm Home Discount
- registering for Priority Services Register
- energy and water saving tips and advice
- grants for insulation and heating
- heating control advice
- smart meters
- referrals for help with benefits and debts

Can you make your money go further?
There are a number of initiatives that aim to save you money on food costs. The South Devon Food Alliance website has links to local services that work to ensure people can access a healthy diet despite rising food costs. Also, consider websites like OLIO and Too Good To Go, which can save you money.
Affordable finance, safe savings
Westcountry Savings and Loans is a Credit Union and an alternative financial option to short-term loans, door-stop and payday lenders and items rented weekly.
If you need to replace furniture or everyday electrical items such as a microwave or washing machine, then use their online calculator to compare borrowing costs. The credit union lends responsibility based on what you can afford, as well as offering a safe space to save.
